Following the completion of the Slough CDC project, SDLA returned to site for the final snagging visit, marking an exciting moment as the landscape moves fully into operation alongside a live, functioning healthcare environment.

With the hospital already open and in use, the visit offered a valuable opportunity to experience the landscape in its real context – occupied, active, and part of everyday routines. This stage goes beyond a typical inspection; it is about observing how the space performs, supports movement, and contributes to the overall user experience.

The snagging process included a detailed review of both hard and soft landscape elements, from material finishes and construction detailing to planting quality and early establishment. Particular attention was given to how the spaces are used on the ground – how people move through them, pause within them, and interact with the environment as part of a working healthcare setting.

Being on site at this point brings a different perspective – seeing the design not just as a completed project, but as a living landscape beginning to embed itself into daily life. The early spring setting also revealed the first signs of seasonal change, offering a glimpse into how the planting will evolve and mature over time.

Working closely with the contractor and wider project team, final refinements were coordinated to ensure the scheme meets both design intent and performance expectations.

This moment represents more than completion – it marks the beginning of the landscape’s life in use. For SDLA, it is especially rewarding to see the project actively supporting a healthcare environment, where well-considered outdoor spaces can contribute to wellbeing, recovery, and day-to-day experience.
